Sound-wise, they perform better in the bass and treble range, while the Q701 have a more even mid-range. They perform best with a mid-fi to hi-fi warm linear and/or colored amplifier. Coarse the mids are not as forward as the HD 600, but still, provide plenty of detail (especially for gaming) and are less fatiguing for longer listening sessions. (I haven't used a tube amp yet) The amplifiers and/or amplifier companies I would recommend to pair the K712 with would be the THX 789(What I use), Audio GD AMPs, and/or JDS Labs AMPs.
